1. The Articles of Incorporation of MARLAW was filed with the Securities & Exchange Commission on 03 December 1981 and was duly registered with the SEC on 07 January 1982.

2. As a non-profit, non-stock organization, MARLAW was organized for the following purposes:

a. To promote the betterment and development of maritime law, its understanding, administration and implementation;
b. To establish, maintain, and perpetuate amiable relations and chosen cooperation between and among its members;
c. To gather, obtain, disseminate and exchange information on matters of mutual interest to the members;
d. To assist its members in the maintenance and improvement of existing local and international practices in maritime law;
e. To maintain the highest ethical standards in the practice of maritime law;
f. To do and perform all and everything suitable, convenient and proper for the accomplishment of any of the purposes and for the attainment of any of the objects herein enumerated or incidental thereto; and
g. To contribute by all appropriate means and activities to the unification of maritime and commercial law, maritime customs, usages and practices.
